Track-out is the single most visible thing a site does wrong. It is what neighbors photograph, what inspectors cite, and what turns into a turbidity problem the moment it rains. Construction sweeping is not the same as municipal street sweeping — the material is heavier, the schedule follows the earthwork, and the sweeper has to work around active operations, traffic control, and a site entrance that is in use all day. Permits, compliance & why this matters

Construction sites disturbing one acre or more in Washington fall under the Department of Ecology Construction Stormwater General Permit, which requires sediment to be kept out of the storm system and off public roads. Sweeping backs up the stabilized construction entrance (BMP C105), wheel wash (BMP C106), and dust control (BMP C140) measures in Ecology's Stormwater Management Manual for Western Washington, and it is the fastest way to clear a track-out finding before it escalates.

Construction Sweeping: common questions

How often does a construction site need to be swept?

It follows the work, not the calendar. During mass excavation and export with trucks running all day, daily sweeping is normal and some sites need twice a day. During vertical construction it may drop to weekly. During backfill, paving, and final grading it goes back up. We adjust rather than locking you into a frequency that stops matching the site.

Who is responsible for mud tracked onto a public road?

The contractor and the permit holder. Under the Construction Stormwater General Permit and local jurisdiction requirements, sediment leaving the site is the site's problem regardless of who physically tracked it out, and jurisdictions in King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Thurston County will cite it.

Do you work on prevailing wage and public works projects?

Yes. We are an active subcontractor on WSDOT and Sound Transit projects, including the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid, I-405 Brickyard to SR 527, the F200 Federal Way Link Extension, and the R200 Redmond Link Extension.

Can you sweep the same day we call?

Do you haul away what you sweep up?

Yes. We run our own dump trucks, so swept material can go straight to disposal without a second vendor or a stockpile sitting on your site.
